Newstead Abbey

Founded as a monastic house in the late twelfth century, Newstead became the Byron family seat in 1540. Newstead's most famous owner, the poet Lord Byron, sold the property in 1818. Newstead Abbey remained a private country house until 1931, when it was presented to the Nottingham Corporation for the public to enjoy. Explore the medieval cloisters, splendid Victorian room settings and the private apartments of the poet Byron. Browse in the library and marvel at the extensive panelling in the Great Hall, all reputed to have come from a single oak tree! See the fascinating collection of paintings and furniture throughout the house. A display for families invites you to try on replicas of some of Lord Byrons favourite clothes and be transformed into the romantic hero!

The modern Centenary Stand boasts splendid views of the racecourse, parade ring and winner's enclosure - providing an ideal base for a perfect day. The Grandstand Enclosure is a popular choice for many racegoers, offering the largest enclosure and the 'hubbub' of the main betting ring. A great day out with lively bars and fabulous views of the course from the main Grandstand viewing area.

Nottingham Forest Football Club

The ground from a distance looks quite picturesque sitting on the banks of the River Trent. Both ends have been re-developed during the 1990's, much improving the overall appearance. At one end, the Bridgford Stand houses away fans in the lower tier;it is odd because one third of this stand was built lower then the rest, due to a local Council planning requirement to allow sunlight through to the houses in nearby Colwick Road. Opposite, the Trent End, is the most recent addition to the ground. It is a large two tiered stand that looks quite smart. One unusual feature of the stand, is that running across the middle are a number of rows of seatingenclosed within a covered shaded glass area.
